Abigale Lee
Miller(born September 21 1965) is an American choreographer, dance instructor,
and reality television personality. Abby Lee Dance Company is her own creation
that aired for eight seasons on Dance Moms. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded
guilty to criminal bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced on June 27 the 27th
of June, 2016 to a year, one day in federal prison. She was released February
27 28th, 2018. She was diagnosed with lymphoma in April 2018. It's a form of
cancer that renders her incapable of walking. To move around she is now using a
wheelchair. Miller was born in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. Her mom taught her
dance at Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller was 14 when she was asked to
choreograph and the role of coach for one of her mother’s competitive dance
teams. Miller assumed control of the studio and changed its name to Reign Dance
Productions in 1995. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America in 1986.
She became a part of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 in February 2012.
However her membership was terminated by DMA in February 2012 after the DMA
said that Miller's reality television show Dance Moms was "a complete
false representation of dance educators and students and is damaging to the
dance profession."
